Tomohiro Ueda, M.D., Ph.D.: Dr. Ueda is an owner of non-profit organization, comfortable urology network (CUN) and the For You foundation at the Urology Ueda Clinic, and clinical professor, Kyoto university hospital, Kyoto, Japan. Dr. Ueda graduated from the UOEH (University of the occupational and environmental health) in 1987. Dr. Ueda did his residency in Urology at Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, and he also received a Ph.D. at Kyoto University. Dr. Ueda has extensive clinical experience in urinary incontinence and interstitial cystitis (IC). Since 1997, Dr. Ueda has been studying patho-physiological IC condition using a novel oral agents including IPD-1151T (Suplatast tosilate), which of clinical study has started in the US and EU.
Dr. Ueda has also coordinated the clinical IC projects performed in Japan. Dr. Ueda has served as the President in the first meeting of International Consultation on Interstitial Cystitis, Japan (ICICJ) held on March 28-30, 2003 in Kyoto, Japan in collaboration with Drs. Grannum R. Sant, Philip M. Hanno and Naoki Yoshimura in the USA. The ICICJ meeting was truly international in scope (27 representatives from all 5 continents and over 14 countries) and has provided the first step for the establishment of the internationally approved diagnostic criteria of IC. Dr. Ueda has also contributed to organizing the first IC patient group, Tomo-no-ki, in Japan and founded NPO: CUN in 2005. Dr. Ueda has organized 2nd ICICJ in Kyoto in March 2007 and involved in world research group such as 4th ICI:international consultation on incontinence in Paris in 2008 and NIDDK symposium and handled 3rd ICICJ meeting in March 2013 joint with ESSIC, and organized the 2018 ICICJ meeting successfully in Kyoto, Japan.
