Wolfgang Umek studied medicine in Austria and the U.S.A.. He trained in Radiology and OB/GYN at Medical University of Vienna and became board-certified as OB/GYN in 2003. He spend one year with the Pelvic Floor Research Group at the University of Michigan (Prof. John OL DeLancey) 2002-2003, was head of urogynecology at his Alma Mater until 2019, board member of the Austrian society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (2010-2015, 2022 to date), president of the Austrian Society of Urogynecology 2013-2015, and Europe´s representative with IUGA 2015-2017. He is currently Austria´s representative with the European Board and College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (EBCOG)
Wolfgang Umek´s research focuses on overactive bladder (polymedication, microbiome) and clinical outcomes of pelvic floor surgery.
