This interactive case discussion addresses the challenging female lower urinary tract disease after pelvic irradiation. Cases discussed will include severe urinary incontinence, vesicovaginal fistula and vesico-vagino-rectal fistulae, following remote pelvic irradiation. Specific focus will be on the pathogenesis, diagnostic approach and decision making and the treatment approach. Evidence based introduction to every case will be presented before the case scenario. A surgical video pertinent to every case will be presented at the end of the case. The course will be concluded with "take home messages" and surgical tips and trick related to vaginal reconstruction in those cases.

Learning Objectives

  • To learn about the long term radiation effects on female lower urinary tract. To learn the pathogenesis and different types of female urinary incontinence following pelvic irradiation.
  • To learn the Video-urodyamic findings and tips to improve the urodynamic diagnostic yield during the evaluation for radiation induced lower urinary tract dysfunction in females.
  • To know the surgical technical difficulties, tips and tricks for vaginal reconstruction following pelvic irradiation in women. To know different treatment options for radiation induced vesicovaginal and vesicorectal fistulae in women. To identify the indications for urinary diversion in those cases.
