The great point about this year’s conference is that you can attend either in person or online. I encourage everyone to explore the conference program and find topics that interest them. The focus of my nursing practice and research is on people who have had recent injuries or changes in their health requiring them to need bowel and bladder management. Nursing is often included in this process and in many instances provides education, training, assistance and problem solving for daily care needs. ICS does a great job recognizing the role of a nurse and many of the workshops and sessions include information that applies to nursing clinical practice.

There are great workshops available on Wednesday 7th September that really focus in on needs of individuals with spinal cord injuries that focus on this population and health needs. An important workshop that I will be attending on is: ICS CORE CURRICULUM (FREE): Nursing Committee Workshop: Self-Management in Continence Care. As the title says it is a free workshop that really focuses in on Nursing Practice. This year’s presenters include Angie Rantell, Donna Bliss, and Frankie Bates. The great component of this workshop is the opportunity to ask questions and share experiences related to the topics that are being presented. There is also time during this workshop to meet other nursing colleagues from around the world or from your own country. Many of the nursing committee members are also present and available to talk with.

Other workshops that I am interested in are:

Interaction between bladder and sex in spinal cord disease
Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD): a serious, rather underestimated condition
ICS CORE CURRICULUM (FREE): Neurourology Promotion Committee: Updates on treatment of neurogenic bladder dysfunction

Sessions I'm excited to attend on Thursday 8th September
In my practice it is important to keep up to date on the newest approaches to help improve health outcomes for the clients I work with. ICS has a session titled: Products, Devices and Innovative Therapies and also an Exhibition Hall. The Exhibition Hall is a great way to talk with product representatives and also talk with other colleagues about there experiences with the products.

Further sessions I'm interested in:

Friday 9th September
Best Conservative Management 1 and Best Conservative Management 2
Bowel Dysfunction

Saturday 10th September
Conservative Management
