The ICS office was pleased to announce that the 2016 lifetime achievement award winner was Kari Bø. The ICS Life Time Achievement Award is a well-deserved acknowledgement of her work and contribution to improving the lives of so many affected by pelvic floor disorders.
Kari Bø was presented with the award at the ICS Annual Dinner during the ICS Annual Scientific Meeting in Tokyo.
Kari stated that she was “indeed very honored to receive such a prestigious award from the ICS, a society I joined in 1987 and held my first presentation at in Oslo in 1988!” ICS has been instrumental in Kari’s career over the years and she stated in her acceptance speech that “it has been a fantastic meeting place both for critical debate about research methodology, statistics and results and has been a great inspiration for planning and conducting new studies. I am very thankful for all of these, and also to all my collaborators that have been very important in my work; urologists, urogynecologists, neurologists, radiologists, midwifes and physiotherapists.”
When asked about the importance of ICS meetings Kari stated “it has been very important; not only professionally but personally. The meetings have been set in wonderful surroundings with the opportunity to meet so many good researchers and clinicians from all over the world, many of whom I consider to be my very good friends. The ICS has developed to be a true multidisciplinary organization, and this, in my opinion, is the most important strength in addition to the high scientific level. I would like to give my sincere thanks to all the members of ICS for this award, for friendship, debates and collaboration.”
Kari also sent “special thanks to all the hard working employees at the ICS office. They do a tremendous job for all of us and are always so helpful, supportive and service minded. This award means a lot to me and I feel very humble to have received it.”
