UCon – An Investigational Dorsal Genital Nerve Stimulation (DGNS) System for Treating OAB and FI

The dorsal genital nerve is a purely sensory distal branch of the pudendal nerve with afferent fibers travelling through the S2, S3, and S4 nerve roots. Over the past twenty years several pre-clinical and clinical studies have documented the effect of various forms of DGNS on detrusor contractions, but apart from InnoCon Medical ApS, no company has endeavored to commercialize a clinical DGNS system for controlling the symptoms of OAB (Overactive Bladder) or FI (Fecal Incontinence). The potential advantages of UCon DGNS compared to other forms of neuromodulation include less invasive electrodes, bilateral stimulation, and the ability to deliver “on-demand” stimulation at higher amplitudes without compromising a patient’s ability to walk to the bathroom. How these potential advantages affect efficacy, patient compliance, and adverse events are currently being investigated in several ongoing clinical studies. Interim results from one of these studies will be presented at this congress by Niels Klarskov from Herlev hospital Denmark. In this session we will describe the UCon System and give an overview of ongoing clinical studies. The UCon System is currently in development and has not received regulatory approval for sale in the EU, US, Canada, or any other geography.
